A warm welcome to
Our Funeral Homes
With four locations around Tayside, we warmly welcome you to our comfortable and accessible funeral homes.
Built in 1874, to house the original Eastern Primary School and thereafter, the building was used as halls for St. Aidan's Church. This made it the home of many local organisations, including the venue for such events as Broughty Ferry Arts Society Exhibition.
The building was completely and sympathetically converted into a modern funeral home, while maintaining the external facade, and where possible retaining many of the original internal structural features of the building.
The funeral home has been finished to a very high standard and incorporates the latest caring facilities for the deceased in agreeable and tranquil surroundings for the family. Our Service Room in Broughty Ferry can provide seating for up to 150 mourners. This room has the added feature of a glass wall which helps bring natural light into the area.
If the service room is full, this provides an opportunity for people standing in the large foyer area to see and listen to the service via speakers. Our car park, enclosed by boundary railings, provides a large private parking area for our clients.
The premises in Forfar Road, originally a dairy, were opened by R.Sturrock & Sons as a branch office in 1996, around the time of the amalgamation with Niven McFadyen.
These premises have been fully refurbished to a very high standard as illustrated in the photographs.
Located in the heart of the Maryfield area of Dundee opposite Morgan Academy. These modern funeral premises are very close to the Kingsway, City Centre and the main arterial route north towards Tealing and Forfar.
These premises were first occupied by William Comb & Son who started a joinery and undertaking business in 1896 at Whorterbank which was continued by his sons, Robert and David Comb who ran the business until their retiral, when David's son William took over.
In 1959 Hamilton Bros, another local undertaker was acquired and the business moved to 80 South Road. Trading continued until 1973 when a new partnership with the Davidson family was established to form Comb & Davidson. Davidson the Funeral Directors were formed by Andrew Davidson in 1908 and latterly occupied premises at 76 High Street, Lochee, where they remained until the amalgamation with William Comb & Son in 1973.
Our Service Room can provide seating for up to 75 mourners in very comfortable surroundings.
For almost a century, we have been established at this location, previously trading under the name of R. Sturrock & Sons, which dates back five generations.
R. Sturrock & Sons was founded in 1890 by Robert and George Sturrock, both Monikie men. Premises in Bank Street and Overgate Dundee followed and in the early 1900's new premises were opened in the current location. In 1998 R. Sturrock & Sons merged with Comb & Davidson, thereby strengthening the service that this family business could provide. This gave the business the ability to collectively provide vehicles of a higher standard and further develop their premises into very modern facilities whilst maintaining traditional standards.
Our Funeral home at Lochee Road offers a small, friendly Service Room which is suitable for private or smaller funerals. This room can cater for seating of up to 20 mourners and provides a relaxed, warm atmosphere.
